20 Minute Workout

OK... I'm starting to get a little concerned. Coop is getting bigger; he's turning into a little chub. Look at that belly. Sometimes his chins number in the double digits. His thighs are almost as wide as his head. He is completely out of shape. He mostly just lies around all day; if we go for walks or outings, Mel and I end up doing all the work. (Consequently, I am in the best shape I've been in years... but enough about me.) So I've been urging Mel to figure out a way for him to get some exercise and start firming up a bit. Fortunately, last week, Karen and Eric lent us their activity mat, the first step in Coop's new workout regimen. But I'm still not sure if that's enough... So if anyone can help, we're in the market for a personal trainer for babies.

Summer Nights

Coop loves hanging out in the backyard , at least I think he does, his expressions change so quickly it's hard to tell.

Smile Like You Mean It

On July 4th, I was holding Coop and I started making vowel sounds (Aahh, Oh, Eee, Ewww - vocal im style for those who know my work jargon) and amazingly, Coop smiled. It was the first time he smiled, with me anyway, in response to environmental stimuli... and not just any environmental stimulus: ME! It was magical and, since then, my vocabulary at home has been reduced to those four sounds the majority of the time. Sometimes it will even stop a crying episode. (And of course, sometimes Coop could not care less...) Since July 4th, he has been smiling more and more. His biggest smiles seem to come in response to his Mom; on the changing table or holding him after a feeding, all Mel has to do is give him a big smile and he will usually give her a big smile back. And frequently, he even makes cute cooing noises at the same time. Yet it's been a huge challenge trying to capture his gorgeous smile on "film" to share with all of you. But on Grandma Ruth's last morning with us, minutes before leaving for the airport, the stars aligned and she snapped the picture posted here.

Coop was 2 months old yesterday. He is an incredible little being, smiling or otherwise. I never imagined that life could be this rich.

Still Trying

I'm still trying to get a photo of Coop's huge smiles, they are so amazing. But he doesn't like to smile at the camera. I guess we'll have to hold off on starting his modeling career.

We finally got a binky that Coop likes and can keep in his mouth by himself (most of the time), and it has changed our lives.

My mom is here for a week, to visit Coop. It's pretty awesome having her help and she seems to be really enjoying all the smiles and cute sounds that he makes now, she doesn't even seem to mind the crying and screaming.

Smiles

Coop started smiling about a week or two ago, it's very very cute. I haven't been able to get a good picture yet, so here are a couple of half smiles, when he's really smiling, it's huge and amazing.

Busy Weekend

Coop had a few visitors this weekend, Tiffany & Jason, and Molly (sorry we forgot to take photos). But he hasn't quite developed his social skills yet, he seems to have no problem falling asleep on people. What would Miss Manners say?

Shear Genius

Coop's losing his hair, but only on one side. So, we're experimenting with some new looks for him, a comb-over, a mohawk. Got any ideas?
