According to wikipedia, Binkie was a brand name of a pacifier in the 1930s in the US, and it became a general name for a pacifier shortly after. Apparently it had lead in it. The term Dummy is used in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, and the term Soother is used in Ireland and Canada. I feel like such an internet geek right now.
Welcome to the Mellen Patch, a nice spot in Southern California down San Diego way... The Patch is in a new phase of development: It's pretty much all Cooper all the time. Life since his arrival - May 20th, 2007 - has been both challenging and magical. We'll do our best to spare you the challenging bits. Thanks for stopping by.

I have never heard it called a Binkie. The most common terms I have heard for it are a soother and a dummy. It must be an american thing.
